Actually a couple of Johns and some Dans as it would have been Dan Hickey in the No! days. Which makes me wonder...
Assuming the instrument is just the keyboard, it's obviously Linnell playing, but if it happened to be a real xylophone thing do we think it would have been Linnell or Dan Hickey playing it? After all, xylophone is traditionally more of a percussion instrument. Hmmm.

Oh, really?? I didn't even think of that. I'm a little fuzzy on when exactly Dan Hickey was there and when all the current guys came around. Anyway, though, that's an interesting thought. I'll bet it was some sort of real wooden xylophone thing. I have no reason to think this other than the sound of the song, but that's my two cents. Hmmm, indeed.

keyboards can be pretty accurate in emulating sounds.
unrelated, In the No! liner notes:
Dan Hickey plays the drums Danny Weinkauf plays the bass and sings "Where Do They Make Balloons" Dan Miller plays the guitar very well
