I voted for Linnell, because he always makes eye contact with the audience while he sings, despite his introverted..ness? Otherwise. Also because Flans was HANDS DOWN my favorite in the beginning, but then Linnell took over because there's such a cleverly veiled sadness in a lot of his songs that I love, and also because he easily navigates back and forth between that and cracking wise like it's effortless!
And also because he plays the accordion, which is REALLY difficult to play! Or at least to learn. For me to learn, anyway. It's taking me a while to get good at it. I bet Linnell just looked at one for about five minutes in total silence, then picked it up for the first time ever and started rocking out.

See, I'm terrified that this is going to happen to me because I adore Flans with all my being but it drives me crazy that he never looks at anybody in the audience. I mean, let's face it, making eye contact with Linnell during a show rules pretty hard. And I do love more Linnell songs than Flans songs, I think (I haven't counted lately, maybe that's another post) but Flans is just so.... I don't know. And yes, I am pretty sure that's EXACTLY how Linnell learned to play accordion.

Ya know, before I listened to any TMBG at all I read some fans refer to "John Flansburgh" and "John Linnell". They were talking about which they prefer, and I was so sure I'd prefer this Flansburgh guy... And duh Linnell learned to play the Accordion that way. He was like "This is a very interesting instrument let me STARE at it."
