Haha...I don't know if this would really be considered a game, but I was watching the old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie (the first one, though the second is my favorite) last night and realized that the acronym sounds similar to They Might Be Giants', which led me to amusingly try and make comparisons between the two. (And I'm referring to the old TMNT -- the ones from the 80's and early 90's I used to watch when I was little -- cartoon or movies. I don't know anything about the newer ones from the past couple of years except that the more modern cartoon versions of them are all pointy and creepy with no pupils and horrific voices.)
*They were both "born" in the early eighties.
*They both started out in underground venues. ha.
*They were both doing something different than the average turtle -- or human -- and bringing something positive to the world.
*They live in New York
*They're all highly skilled and work together well but also have their own specific talents
*TMNT technically has five members -- Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Splinter
(I was going to try to compare the members to members of TMBG, but I can't decide on any except MAYBE Marty = Michelangelo, so if anyone else wants to weigh in on this or anything else I said here, go for it. hehe.)

Haha, I'm glad someone else is amused by it! :] And I would say that counts! And here's my thought process as far as assigning a member of TMNT to each member of TMBG. I still can't decide for sure, but I figured I'd share it anyway: Michelangelo = Marty (because of his energetic dancing and drumming and he seems perhaps the most free-spirited and likely to yell "party on" or something similar. :] And nunchaku are kind of like drumsticks?) Leonardo = Flansburgh (According to the character bios on the special features of the first movie's DVD, "Leonardo is interested in order and tries to be the leader of the TMNT. When accused of being too stringent in his expectations, Leonardo responds, 'I'm not striving to be perfect, only perfectly proficient.' He loves his family more than life itself and feels responsible for their protection. Leonardo believes a proper ninja is always prepared, and three steps ahead of his nemesis.") Donatello = Linnell (because of the fact that he's more on the technical end of things when it comes to song-writing. Donatello is also considered the "brain" of the group and "considered the most reserved" with "a knack for inventing cool new gadgets and machines". [Replace "gadgets and machines" with "lyrics and melodies" and you've got Linnell. Not that Flansburgh doesn't write some fantastic songs. But Linnell seems to be an endless fount of interesting new melodies and musical arrangements and lyrics.]) Raphael = Danny (I have no idea why, but Danny seems more like a "tough guy" to me than any of the others. I'm not even sure what that means. He's also been known to make a couple of humorously sarcastic comments during shows, if I remember correctly. [And I may be entirely wrong there, as I can't remember any specific examples. I also realize that Flans and even Linnell probably make far more sarcastic comments during shows than Danny, but give me a break here. ] And do I even have to mention the red pants?! hehe.) Splinter = Dan (because he seems peaceful and mysterious, at least in my opinion. He's the band member I know the least about, I think. Plus, doesn't Dan do a lot of everything? Guitar mainly, but also keyboards and back-up singing and odds and ends in the shows? In the movie's DVD bio of Splinter, it lists his weapon of choice as "any or none, it matters not." ) haha, some of those (or all of them) may be a bit of a stretch, but it was fun. If anyone agrees, disagrees, or has anything to add, feel free to do so.

oh, I definitely agree with linnell/donatello (I was actually going to suggest that but I wasn't sure how to put it), and marty/michelangelo. The other three sound good, but I'm not sure if they're all necessarily the best fit, you know? I think dan and flans could possibly switch places. I think dan is basically the "lead guitarist" so he does kind of lead the charge fairly often, but I'm not sure because in all other situations, I would agree that flans is more of a leader. On the other hand, splinter is like the leader too, right? As for "any [weapon] or none", any could be that flans played a lot of instruments early on (ie the normal ones) and none would, in that vein, be that now he basically DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO PLAY GUITAR and does nothing. Or at least, not as much. Does that makes any sense? verbalisation is not my forte.

Yeah, the Dan and Flans switching may work. Those and Danny were the ones I was the most apprehensive about. The main reason I had Dan as Splinter is because of the mysteriousness, but that's solely based on the fact that I personally know the least about Dan. Then there was the ambiguity when it comes to weapons/musical instruments. But, like you said, Flans did play several instruments early on. Although I guess so did Linnell. Though, what do you mean he doesn't know how to play guitar and does nothing? I thought he still played guitar (?) and he always sings. I was thinking the weapons could be comparable to instruments and "none" could be vocals. I dunno. That may still work for both of them, of course. All of these things are just amusing little connections I was making. Or, in some cases, forcing. But I see your point in most of what you said. And yes, Splinter is really the leader, or master. So that'd work. I dunno. Either one sounds like it may go. I'm rambling and making no sense. Verbalization isn't my forte, either. (I say that in so many words pretty much every time I write anything of length, but it's true.)

The main reason I had Dan as Splinter is because of the mysteriousness, but that's solely based on the fact that I personally know the least about Dan. yeah, that makes sense. well sure, linnell did too, but I think flans did more of the conventionally important stuff. Like, guitar, bass (sometimes), programming the drums, etc. The building blocks of music, if you will. Not that Linnell had no part in that/wasn't important, but, you know. oh, yeah yeah, he still does stuff, but I mean, he's definitely not as involved in...being tmbg's guitarist as he was. He's not really, you know, an excellent guitar player, but even without that uh..."weapon"...he's still flans and he is still awesome. At least, as far as I'm concerned. I was exaggerating a little.
