This was my second TMBG show ever. First off, let me say that the Visulite was a very tiny, but wonderful venue. Now, for arriving at the doors at 7:30, I got a wonderful spot. My two siblings and I sat right in front of Marty's drum kit. Jonathan Coulton was very interesting. I did however like his song Mr. Fancy Pants, and I hope it is that funny on his album. With about a thirty minute break in between Coulton and TMBG, my feet were already tired but I could take it on. When TMBG came on stage, the excitement that I wasn't feeling yet in that day, suddenly came to me. Some songs in the show that I hadn't seen much in past set lists were Where Your Eyes Don't Go, Electric Car (Flans Version), and They Might Be Giants. There were some technical difficulties. There was a bunch of dialogue, and it was all so funny. Some of my favorite quotes are (these aren't exact, just what I remember) "This next song is off of our newest adult album, and by adult I mean porno" - Flans "You know, I remember the last show here, there was a lady who had her first dose of ecstacy, and she wouldn't stop yelling at us, and there was a point where I was like 'get out of my mind lady' and she would say 'what mind?'" Something that I hated so much was that right when they went off stage for the second time, and the music from the speakers started to play, I already wished they would come back. That's the kind of affect a band needs to have on it's fans. With the exception of one drunk lady that was determined to get in front of me, the fans were pretty tamed. After the show was over, I thought that it might be smart to wait awhile and maybe the band would come out and sign stuff. Set lists were handed out (which I did not get) and the band never came out. So that ended one of the best concerts I've seen. With a diverse set list and a lot of funny dialogue, it was a treat for the ears. I too though, cannot remember the name of the trumpet player, although I thought his first name was Robert. Now, I'm curious to find out what other songs were planned. I knew this show would be a good one, but wow, this show was "Damn Good" Can't wait for the next round in NC! Sorry for the long review, but the show was that great!

Oh, Charlotte show...poor Charlotte show....
Despite all it's problems, I find I have an odd affection for this show. And I "acquired" a poster from the club bathroom so I have a constant reminder of it on my bedroom door.
I am really glad you enjoyed it. It had a great setlist (first time I heard Electric Car too) and there was some extremely funny stage banter. I especially liked all the Rob Tanner jokes and Flans' suggestion that they make fortune confetti.
Even more so, I am glad you liked it because it confirms my suspicion that the majority of the fans there did not notice how badly it was going. That makes me feel a lot better about it. Because from my perspective it was kinda hard to watch. It kinda stresses me out just thinking about it.
But I did really bond with the trash can I was standing on top of all night. It was really great. I miss that thing. I wish it had kept in touch. I felt like we really shared a moment.

Yes. This was the show where, instead of singing "I don't want the world" during Ana Ng, he just swayed with the microphone and glared at the audience and the other guys on stage were like "uhhh... we'll just keep playing, I guess?" He was having a bad night. Poor Flans.
Also hilarious: when the camera stopped working during the Avatars, Flans and Linnell stayed behind the screen, so you could see their bottom halves. Flans had put his puppet away but Linnell was still holding his, and Flans kept hitting Linnell and pointing to the trunk like "PUT DOWN THE PUPPET, MAN." Then he closed the lid on Linnell's puppet's head.
The technical issues were stressful to watch but I enjoyed Electric Car and now sometimes I yell "ROB TANNER, WEATHER DETECTIVE" without warning, which can be exciting.

I agree. The banter made the show a whole lot funnier. I don't remember Flans during Ana Ng. I really didn't notice the music playing when it wasn't supposed too. You have to love the flaws, it makes the show a lot funnier!

Yes! We went on a road trip. It was pretty killer. Next time we're down that way we'll all have to do a better job of finding people....

Valerie, it was by far my favorite part of the whole show. It just summed up everything perfectly. Sadly, I have no video of it. It might be out there somewhere....
