As per the band's Facebook post today:
August shows in Santa Cruz, Napa and San Fransisco! The "Almost Everybody" experiment begins: We are doing three West Coast shows but there is NO age limit. These shows will be far too loud and just wrong for little kids as the show will be, er, for adults, but it is open to teenagers and older kids are invited. Maybe this will work. Please take this information at face value!
Ignoring the fact that Flans cannot spell, isn't the age limit specified by the club? I can't imagine a place with a bar agreeing to let younger kids into a rock show when there's clearly alcohol present. I will say that I've seen younger kids at Port City and the Orange Peel being let in because they have parents with them, so maybe that's what they're getting at? Either way, I thought that was a normal club thing.
ETA: ha, it got deleted like ten minutes later. Possibly to fix the spelling error, or because Flans realized that this idea might not really work.

Things like the 16+ and the 21+ age limits are typically set by the clubs and usually have to do with either their liquor license or just their club policy. But the 14+ age limit is definitely imposed by the band. They were having trouble with people bringing toddlers to rock shows so I believe they put the 14+ thing in their rider.
Many clubs and venues do have all ages shows and just card people at the door. Others allow people under 16 with a parent. I think some of it depends on the vibe of the club and the type of acts they typically book. I suppose having underage people in a club with a bar is not much different from having underage patrons at a restaurant with a bar.
Personally I think it's a good move. I know I have seen a number of complaints from kids and parents of kids who are in the 10-13 age range and are fans of the band but are really too old for family shows but yet not old enough for the rock show. I think it's those kids they are trying to open up to.

SO INFORMATIVE. Okay. This is making more sense. Now I wonder why he deleted it.

I remember on YouTube TheStonePony posted a comment to my channel (how cool!?) that said the band put the 14+ age limit up for the show, so that's definitely their doing. If they are doing this kind of show (for I am in the 10-13 age-range) I will do everything in my power to get to one of these shows. I hope they didn't second-guess themselves and delete it.

He re-posted it. Turns out the Napa show shouldn't have been included as the club requires 21+ which is, I assume why the original was deleted.
And yes, I am a fountain of useless information.

Yes, I just got one of those TMBG emails about it. Sadly I CANNOT GO. To any of them. I really hope this crazy (and wonderful) idea works, because then there is a pos-si-bil-li-ty they might play closer to Louisiana!!! And useless information?! Try very important information for people who had their Facebook accounts screw up!
