I'm here because I was invited and because I think this is a pretty awesome forum. I make a lot of stupid puns and song references in day-to-day conversation, so if you find this (or anything else I do) annoying, please let me know and I will stop. Just thought I'd get apologies out of the way first.
I've been a fan of They Might Be Giants for about two years now. I first heard of them from a friend who told me about hearing a song he knew by them on "Pushing Daisies". The episode aired in 2007 but, though I was (and still am) a huge "Pushing Daisies" fan, I didn't see the episode until I bought the first season in late July 2008. I immediately loved the scene and the music it featured, which was part of "Birdhouse In Your Soul". I remembered my friend telling me that it was by They Might Be Giants, so I looked them up online. I found a page with the lyrics to "Birdhouse" with a YouTube video embedded therein. I have dial-up internet, but I liked what I'd heard of the song so much that I let it load for a good hour or more so I could see it.
Within the next few weeks, I listened to TMBG song samples on those little headphones at Barnes and Noble in between classes at the community college I attended. I also looked up songs on MySpace Music in the computer lab at school. Not long after, I bought "A User's Guide To They Might Be Giants", followed by "Direct From Brooklyn", "Flood", "Apollo 18", and "John Henry". I have access to much more of their music now (thanks to Kelly) but still plan on buying more albums, possibly on vinyl if they're still made/sold.
In October 2009, I attended my first (and, so far, only) They Might Be Giants show at The Vogue in Indianapolis. It was overall a fantastic experience and I hope to be able to attend another show if they tour close to where I live again.
Sorry for writing so much. I apologize for doing that a lot, too. Also: hi. (I suppose that was really the intended purpose of this particular category.)
