I can't believe this thread hasn't been started yet. Personally I am partial to most pre-Apollo 18 hair. Not too short, not too long. It's pretty glorious in the Puppet Head video. I don't like to think about The Guitar or The Statue Got Me High.

My favorite Linnell hair seems to come in waves. It's like it reaches the optimum length just before he cuts it. It is pretty perfect in the Puppet Head video as well as the Crane video. It comes and goes like the seasons. It was pretty perfect here last summer: www.flickr.com/photos/mynameisbluecanary/3711580837/in/set-72157621191095775/I am not a fan of the Apollo era hair either but I find I have gotten used to it over time. Gary always disagrees with me when I complain about it but it only just occurred to me this second that that was what it probably looked like when he first saw them live so he was used to that before anything else. Huh. Worst I've seen in person was that show last January. Yikes, that was short.

I love this forum!! I agree with both of you here. The video for "They'll Need A Crane" is the one in which his hair is the most glorious, in my opinion. Yum.

I can't believe this thread hasn't been started yet. I actually was going to start this, but I was like "NO! THIS IS NO PLACE FOR IT!" But it is and I have no idea what I was thinking. -- As for an answer? Apollo-18 hair. More specifically in the video for The Guitar. It's long and wonderfully flowy. And I also think his Puppet Head hair is perfect. Oh, and I like how it dances in They'll Need A Crane.

oh my dear margaret... (user ana ng) I personally think it's too long in the apollo 18 era. When it's shorter like in the Crane video, it seems to complement his face better. I found my self yelling at the screen when watching the statue video saying "cut your hair" and something about pants... I don't like it when his hair is so short. Like it could be longer in his current style. Personally, it should always stay like this www.museumofidiots.com/john/misc/slides/giganticpromo2.html

They'll Need A Crane. Everything about him in that video is just... lush beyond words (':

Can I be controversial and say that I actually don't mind the Apollo 18 era? It's just the really bad 1988 Letterman(?) appearance that bothers me.
As for present day... I can't find photos, but it should never be super-short ever.
